A very exciting thing happened today. Ian Somerhalder, aka Damon on The Vampire Diaries, launched his foundation! "The IS Foundation aims to empower, educate & collaborate with people & projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures." Ian is an amazing person who cares deeply about the environment and animals alike. When the terrible oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico happened, Ian was right there in his home town of Louisiana raising awareness of what it had done to the wildlife in the area and what needed to be done to help. He filmed public service announcements about it, and later was apart of a Larry King Live telethon to raise money for various charities such as the National Wild Life Federation, that would help those animals affected by the spill.
Beyond raising money, it's also been said that Ian has brought some renewable energy possibilities to the set of The Vampire Diaries, as well as aiming to decrease the use of plastic and finding ways to conserve energy.
We all want to help save our planet right? Well Ian is giving us the chance. It's his birthday wish, for everyone to join forces and donate $32 (that's how old he will turn on December 8th) to his foundation to make something great happen. Any donation is much appreciated however it doesn't need to be $32, although I've already made my donation and can't tell you how great I feel about doing so. I feel like this is a very unique foundation that is going to give everyone that wants a chance to participate and raise awareness about causes that could change the world a chance to. Ian is empowering us, so in-turn we need to help him and donate. Let's make sure Ian has an amazing birthday that he will never forget!
